Hospital

Hospital

It’s fun to start a blog that talks about food and write the first post from the hospital. I must say I’ve always been an optimistic, and looking on the bright side of life has always been what I consider my greatest virtue.

I’ve been constantly reading food blogs of people that had some issues with their health and they adopted a better diet in order to recover. In my case I usually eat well whenever I cook and I’ve always turned to food when something was unbalanced in my health or life. So I’m finding it kind of ironic to be writing my first post sitting on a hospital bed with an oxygen device connected to my nose.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m ok. I came because of a cold. But what was apparently a simple illness, has gotten a little bit more complicated and I’ve been here for two nights, and I’ll probably have to stay at least one more.

But enough about that. Hospital food! Yay! For a fooding person (yes, I’m “trending” the word ^-^) it’s not the ideal plan. But I already said I always look on the bright side of life. I’m having a great time choosing the menu the day before. I’m also enjoying “room service” and “full board” during my stay. Luckily, I got a spacious room with a view to the ocean. Moreover, the nurses and doctors have all been incredibly kind, affectionate and caring. I’m really grateful.

The food, as happens in the best of families, sometimes tastes good, sometimes not so good. Probably what I’ve enjoyed the most was yesterday’s dinner: Cod with garlic and paprika and Peas with ham.

Today I was really looking forward to having lunch. For dessert I chose wine-poached pears, which I think I’ve never tried. Poached pears, yes. In wine, not so sure. So, I’ve tried something new today. Probably I’ll come up with my own recipe changing white wine for red wine and adding some spices like clove, cinnamon and nutmeg.

Have fun!
