Mijo Minibar Strikes Again

Mijo Minibar Strikes Again

Ooops! I did it again! I went to Mijo Minibar and it was, as expected, delicious.

I was really enjoying that hummus

Carlos and I decided to go do some busking in Vigo. We always love spending time there. After a morning playing in Ourense, we head towards Vigo in order to grab something to eat. Carlos suggested Mijo and I couldn’t say no.

With our drinks came a glass of complementary olives and pickles, as well as some hummus. I was very glad about the hummus, not only because it was something I wanted to try from the menu, but also because it was delicious and the bread that came with it was probably the best part, and your are reading this from someone seriously addicted to hummus. But this bread was crunchy, delicious and with a pungent olive oil flavour.

Jonathan kindly told me that the “Shrimp hot dog” was available too, even though it was not listed on the menu. Apparently, this dish was a huge success at Vigo Sea Fest, which I had to skip this year, but will definitely go next year.

The dish was basically a Lobster Roll, but they used the flavours from the Bloody Mary. I noticed a strong celery taste, which was really appreciated. Also, some tomato of course. If I was serving it, I would add a splash of Tabasco on top…I know what you’re thinking I’m always adding more spiciness to any dish…guilty!

Nonetheless, addictions appart, you could differenciate the flavours of the sauce from the shrimp, being all well balanced and topped with some candied lemon peel. It was so sweet, I had to ask if it was orange. A really nice touch, probably what made it different from any other lobster roll that I’ve had. But again, thumbs up for the amount of celery, because it’s a difficult ingredient that can enhance or ruin your dish, in this case it certainly enhanced it.

Then came the next dish, Scallops on a vegetable purée base with panko deep-fried blood sausage. Wow. I could leave it at that…WOW, and you should be satisfied. Texture, flavour, intensity, technique…everything in one dish. Look at this other picture, and if you get the chance, try it. That’s it.

But we weren’t satisfied by an amazing dish, we had to order some dessert. Our friend Carlos joined us (you might know him from previous posts like Mijo Minibar (Vigo) )

Chocolate lovers…this one was very good

We had been over the top, well especially myself, after trying the Pot de Crème last time.I remembered Johnatan saying I should try either that or the Lemon Posset.

Being outdoors while the sun was shining made theexperience even better. I remember Carlos ordering a chocolate dessert, I tried for the sake of this blog and it was very good. I’m more a citrus girl and I must say, the posset was really, really good. I think if I had to choose, I’d go with the same decission as Jonathan…the Pot de crème. But, rephrasing him, the posset is perfect for heavier meals or warmer days.

Appart from being delicious, he was really kind and invited us to these lovely desserts. I felt terribly bad because they were too good…you should pay for what is good. So, from this humble food lover, thanks Mijo Minibar for making great food and being so friendly with us. I’m counting the days until I go to Vigo again and eat their wonderful food.

Have fun and Keep Fooding!
